RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia Film Office announced that Legacy, a new, dramatic television series, will be filming in central Virginia. ATLANTIS Films Inc. will be producing its first U.S.-based series for UPN (United Paramount Network), which has ordered 13 episodes for its fall schedule. The pilot for the series was shot in the Richmond area in April. The series joins Linc's, now being filmed at New Millennium Studios in Petersburg for the Showtime Network, as Virginia's second network television series. Legacy is set in bluegrass country in the 1880s and tells the story of the Logans, a ranching family that raises thoroughbred racehorses. The ensemble drama features Brett Cullen (Apollo 13, Something To Talk About, The Outer Limits) as Ned Logan, a successful ranch owner and father to a family of headstrong and independent sons and daughters, aged 10 - 25. As patriarch of the clan, Ned Logan has had to raise his four children alone after his wife died during childbirth.
Also featured in the cast are Grayson McCouch as the earnest and fiercely independent Sean, the eldest son; Jeremy Garrett as Clay, the hot-tempered and impulsive second son who dreams of winning the Kentucky Derby; Lea Moreno as Alice, the beautiful and nurturing eldest daughter; Sarah Rayne as Lexy, the spirited and outspoken ten year-old daughter; and Ron Melendez as a handsome young orphan from New York City befriended by the family.
Legacy is created and written by Chris Abbott, who most recently was a writer on CBS's hit series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. She has a broad range of network experience including her work as co-executive producer for Search and Rescue (NBC), Magnum, P.I. (NBC for five seasons) and B.L. Stryker (ABC). She was also executive story consultant for Cagney and Lacey (CBS) and Father Murphy (NBC).
Legacy will be filmed in the Richmond area through December. Richmond was selected as the home for the series because of its abundant period architecture, pristine countryside, and the experienced film crew and facilities located in the area. The series is scheduled to air on the UPN Network Friday nights at 8:00 P.M.
Two additional projects are scheduled for filming in the Richmond area in August. They are the feature film Forces of Nature starring Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck and the ABC mini-series Net Force starring Scott Bakula, based on the novel by Tom Clancey that's due out in September.
