HSHost2 says "Welcome to Hollywood Spotlight on realhollywood.com! My name is April, and I'll be your host for this evening. Joining me in the studio tonight is my producer Peter, and our fabulous typist, Michelle. If you would like to ask our guest a question this evening, it's very simple. Just type in /ask a space and then your question. If you're using "Excite's VP chat" you need only click the "something to say" icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. We are all very excited about our special guest this evening, actor, Ron Melendez from "Legacy." Welcome to Hollywood Spotlight, Ron! Thanks for coming on the show. So how is everything going on "Legacy"?" RonMelendez says "Thank you very much. I'm happy to be here. Everything is great. We've been on vacation for three weeks now, but we're all excited to get back to work on Monday."
guest3831 asks "How did you get the part as Jeremy on Legacy?"
RonMelendez says "I paid them a lot of money! It was that simple. No. I auditioned a bunch of times. Everytime I went in I'd pay them more money." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "No, every year there's a thing called pilot season which is when all the new shows are made and you go out on a bunch of auditions for them. So, I went in for Legacy and the whole time I was auditioning for a different part on the show ... until the final audition. The final one, the network audition is the huge one .. the producers, directors are all there .. and you do your thing. And, they asked me to read for the part of Jeremy and I read for it and they called me and said, hey, let's do it. I was thrilled."
guest3835 asks "Did you have to learn how to ride a horse or did you already know how?"
RonMelendez says "No, I had no idea how to ride. You look and go, "Oh, that's easy enough!" But, it's not .. takes practice to get used to it and feel comfortable and look like you know what you're doing. In the second episode, I'm bouncing and have no idea what I'm doing .. but as time goes on we've all become comfortable in the saddle ... and I enjoy doing it now."
guest3835 asks "what is the hardest thing about riding a horse?"
RonMelendez says "Not bouncing around and looking like a moron! You bounce all over the place and you have to find the rhythm of the horse and get in tune and then there's the whole falling off thing .. which I've been good about so far. But, who knows."
guest3838 asks "I saw you on the Donny & Maria show this week. You are very sweet and handsome. Do you have a girlfriend?"
RonMelendez says "No, I don't. I'm unattached."
guest3837 asks "How long does it take to film one episode of Legacy?"
RonMelendez says "One episode is we film in 7 days, so it's about a week and a half of real time, but then seven working days ... about 12 hours a day, sometimes more, sometimes less."
guest3838 asks "Is it hard to remember your lines?"
RonMelendez says "No. All you really have to do is be ready for the day ahead of you. You only have to learn the lines for that day and it goes scene by scene so you learn the lines for that scene, forget them and go on to the next one."
guest3832 asks "The Legacy is a great show! Do you have a fan club I can join?"
RonMelendez says "Not yet. But, perhaps coming soon."
guest3832 asks "Hi Ron, Hope you had a nice holiday. What did you get for Xmas?"
RonMelendez says "I got a new putter. I try to golf. It's a frustrating thing cause I haven't gotten any better, been playing for two years and I'm still terrible. I have a lot of fun when I do it and actually do something good. I got clothes, CD's stuff ... but I was excited about the putter."
guest3831 asks "Are you as naughty as your character Jeremy?"
RonMelendez says "I'd LIKE to be! At times I am, and at times, I don't even compare. but, I'm becoming more in tune with that, so .. maybe one day soon I will be."
guest3834 asks "How can I get a autographed photo of you?"
RonMelendez says "Send me you know, a letter and I'll be happy to send you one. Send it to UPN, Paramount and they find their way there. UPN's on Wilshire Blvd. in West Los Angeles."
guest3834 asks "what is the hardest thing about being on location?"
RonMelendez says "You know, just not being close to your family or friends because I'm very close with my family and when I'm in town I see them all the time. But, it's been a lot of fun to live in Richmond VA in a new town and immerse yourself in a new culture .. the cast is amazing ..we get along really well. So, the Logan family has been my surrogate family out there."
guest3835 asks "How does your family feel about you being an actor?"
RonMelendez says "They're thrilled! They've been supportive over the whole extent of it ... 10 years when I was working sporadically and doing commercials .. they all love the show and are really happy about it."
guest3834 asks "Do you live in Los Angeles? If so, What do you like best about the west coast?"
RonMelendez says "The weather is the best thing! You know, I ended up .. I was just in Richmond two days ago and was going to go to Miami for vacation but had to come back to LA. In Richmond it was 20 degrees and Miami was 40 degrees and I flew back here and it was 80 degrees, so it's easily the weather."
guest3835 asks "If you could travel to any location on earth, where would you go?"
RonMelendez says "I'd love to go somewhere tropical and warm now. And, either Ireland or Greece, I'm half Irish so I'm interested in that culture and Greece has always fascinated me as well."
guest3835 asks "Any advice for a kid who wants to be an actor?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, if it's what you want to do .. do it, if you're not in a big acting region do plays and community theatre in high school or college. Keep working at it .. if it's what you think you want to do and you have a talent for it, move out to LA or NY and follow your dream. It takes a lot of work, so you have to stick with it ..."
HSHost says "If your kids wanted to act would support that?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, if it was their choice, I'd definitely support it. I know people who've come to LA and it all happened for them right away. But, it never did for me, I was always able to make money and support myself doing it, but it wasn't automatic success for me, so I know what it is to suffer the rejection and the bad aspects of it and I'm not any the worse for it. So, I'd support them doing it if it's what they wanted to do."
squeekie asks "Have you ever taken or passed up a role that you later regretted?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, I've taken a role I regretted!" RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "There've been a few of those and since I regretted them, I'm not going to tell everyone what they were!"
guest3831 asks "What is your opinion of shows like 'PARTY OF 5' and 'Dawson's Creek'?"
RonMelendez says "POF is one of my favs, I started watching it when it came out .. the quality of the writing, the acting ... are fantastic. That's the type of show that benefits TV and makes it redeemable as opposed to other things that are on TV. I like DC too I think there's some talented actors on the show .. more of a POF fan, though."
guest3773 asks "What do you think makes a good Character and Script?"
RonMelendez says "There has to be the stakes .. the stakes have to be high ... have to be going after something they really want. The character can't be one-dimensional .. he wants something, but can't let himself do it .. there has to be conflict in a script and a character."
guest3832 asks "Are we going to see you on the big screen soon?"
RonMelendez says "I hope so! Nothing scheduled, but we're looking for material now for me to start on when we stop filming the show this year."
guest3834 asks "Have you ever done any modeling?"
RonMelendez says "Years ago, but no one would have ever seen it really. I modeled for NIntendo on the little cards they put on the game boxes. For Japanese products .. it was funny .. silly stuff. I didn't really enjoy modeling .. it's so based on physical appearance that I didn't like the idea of it .. and it was really boring."
guest3834 asks "Do you plan on acting forever or would you like to venture into writing/directing?"
RonMelendez says "At this point, I'd say that I plan on acting forever, but I think you can do all three. I'd like to start doing writing .. I have a few things to work on ... as far as directing, I see interest in that, but I have such a long way to go as an actor, that right now, that's my focus."
guest3835 asks "When did you first start acting?"
RonMelendez says "Like freshman year of high school. School plays and stuff, and I was interested in it before that even, so I've sort of been doing it without an audience all my life."
guest3835 asks "Do you have an acting coach?"
RonMelendez says "Not right now. No. I have had several in the past, but you know ... there's not one I can really name right now, so."
guest3834 asks "Can fans come down and watch the legacy film?"
RonMelendez says "If they can find the location, you know. They're certainly welcome to. Most sets are closed for the most part, but if we're filming outside and people are there, they can watch. But, as far as coming on to the stage, it'd be difficult to get past the security."
guest3834 asks "Does it bother you when people ask you for your autograph?"
RonMelendez says "No, not at all! I'm thrilled. It's part of the whole job. It's great. It's a lot of fun I think."
guest3832 asks "If you could cast yourself in any part what would it be?"
RonMelendez says "Hmm ...." RonMelendez {action} ponders" RonMelendez says "Huh.... I just saw Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, I'd like to play Butch in a remake of that."
guest3773 asks "What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you on the show?"
RonMelendez says "I'm pretty cool! There's not a lot of embarrassing moments for me on the show cause I'm so cool." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "I'll have to think about that and see if something comes up .. but so far not a lot. People are in awe basically .. it'd be hard for me to have an embarrassing moment cause they'd just go ... "wow, that was really great."" RonMelendez {action} laughs"
squeekie asks "Do you have an interest in the paranormal? And what is your opinion of the show Xfiles?"
RonMelendez says "I like X Files, it's great. Without the level of acting/writing on the show, it can be paranormal and be crap .. but I'm fascinated by it. By the idea of extraterrestrial life and ghosts and stuff like that, so I really love that show .. I think it's great."
guest3834 asks "Do you only date other actors?"
RonMelendez says "Yes, it's a strict regimen .. if you don't have a headshot and resume ...." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "No, I've only dated one actress, everyone else has been normal people from everyday life, people from school or whatever."
guest3836 asks "how does he feel about dating someone not in show biz?"
RonMelendez says "If I have a connection with somebody it doesn't matter what they do. It's hard to date people in show biz. The good thing is you have a lot in common and you both understand what the other person has to do and what they're going through. That's why you see so many actors dating and you meet and work together every day under intense circumstances .. so just like any job. People meet, fall in love, and they have a relationship."
guest3837 asks "Do you have a crush on an actor that you can share with us?"
RonMelendez says "Oh ... uh ... Gwyneth Paltrow I've had a crush on for a while. I literally get a new one every week, so it's hard to keep track. I think she's a really talented actress and a lovely, lovely woman so she'd be the major one that I have."
guest3838 asks "My mom and I watch the show every week and we love it! Are we going to see more of you this season?"
RonMelendez says "Absolutely. The month of February we have a whole group of new really good shows coming up and it's like the Jeremy Bradford month, very exciting. Our show is a big ensemble cast and everyone gets their storylines and you take a back seat on some episodes and on some you're involved in the main action .. comes in cycles. And, the next couple of shows are good for me."
squeekie asks "Who is your favorite actor that you have worked with?"
RonMelendez says "Let's see ... everyone on the show is great. Really, honestly, I go in to do a scene with people and it's a lot of fun to work with this group of actors .... It's great, we have a really talented group of actors, so I'm as thrilled to work with these people every day as I could be with anyone else. Except Robert DeNiro .. he's someone I'm looking forward to work with .. so this group of actors and then Robert DeNiro."
guest3834 asks "Do you think actors honestly deserve the amount of money they get paid?"
RonMelendez says "I've had this discussion with Jeremy on the set and we've argued about it. I have to agree with him. I think yeah they do. Basically as an actor, you're either working or not working .. if you're not working, you're not making money and 900f actors are not working. So, when you do work, it needs to be something that will keep you going. And, it's a relative scale based on the amount of money being made on your product. RonMelendez says "The entertainment industry is huge and actors wouldn't be paid as much as they are if it wasn't making enough money ... obviously a teacher should make a lot more than they make since they're such an important part of society and deserve to be compensated as such. But, there's not enough money in the school system to pay them .. so I think they should make more money, but I don't think we should be paid less money."
Sid asks "how do you see the film biz changing in the next ten years?"
RonMelendez says "I think the biggest changes will be with technology ... a lot of interesting advances being implemented in film .. and I'm not sure how it's going to change it, but I know things will be very different. It'll be an easier process but I'm not excited about some of the changes .. like any industry that is revolutionized by these things .. it takes away the romance and the magic of making a movie."
Sid asks "what do you think you'd be doing if you weren't acting?"
RonMelendez says "I thought about this last year when I hadn't worked in a year, it had been a long time and I thought, "What in God's name would I be doing?" I have no idea. I thought of a number of things and none of them sounded appealing .. I'd work at the Cineplex projecting a film .. I don't know."
HSHost says "It would be hard to change."
RonMelendez says "Yeah .. I love to act. You know? And, working and acting everyday has only increased my love and passion for what I do and made me want to become the best actor that I can be. And, that's really my goal right now."
Sid asks "do you like to go on location or do you prefer to work on a sound stage?"
RonMelendez says "As long as I'm not in a relationship that would make me wanna stay .. if I had a family location would be a lot less fun. I love living in hotels, going to new places and working and seeing the area we're in. If I could do everything on location right now, I would."
guest3847 asks "Is there a downside to fame? If so what is it?"
RonMelendez says "I don't know?" RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "I haven't really gotten to that level of fame .. it starts becoming sort of invasive to my privacy ... I've had people recognize me but they've all been really nice and said nice things. I think as an actor, you owe your fans a certain amount of your time. Without them, you wouldn't be able to do what you do and make the money you make. I can see where one day it gets too much, but right now it's been great."
guest3846 asks "I just logged in from Holland and I don' know who you are, but your picture looks nice!!"
RonMelendez says "Well, that's nice! I certainly hope they're trying to get the show out there, but she should get someone in America to send her a tape of the show. Get a pen pal."
guest3848 asks "You have a great energy about you. What would you attribute that to?"
RonMelendez says "The fact that I'm having a lot of fun. I'm thrilled doing the show and doing these interviews and talking to everyone. It's great. I'm having a great time doing it! If you're not having a good time now, I don't know when you're going to start. It's just fun."
guest3837 asks "Are you as excited as I am about the new Star Wars movie?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, I don't know how excited you are, but I'm pretty excited about it!" RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "I've seen the trailer and I love Liam, and Ewen (sp?) and Natalie .. so I'll be in line the day it comes out. It's going to be amazing."
guest3849 asks "Which is hardest to work with Animals, Kids or Computer Graphics?"
RonMelendez says "I've done all three, you know. It depends on the animal and the kid. I've worked with kids who were not good, you know .. and someone like Sarah on our show who's a blessing. We have a really close relationship and she's a fantastic little girl. Animals can be hard .. and graphics are hard to work with cause you're reacting to something that's not there. It gets tough. But ...."
guest3849 asks "Do you have a trailer hobby for when you are on location or do you just sit in your trailer ?"
RonMelendez says "I'm breaking up! Give me two seconds!" RonMelendez {action} fixes phone transmission" RonMelendez says "Okay! I'm good. I just sit and think and contemplate life ..." RonMelendez {action} laugh!" RonMelendez says "No ... I don't right now. I really need to ... I sort of want to learn, take Italian classes and learn to speak the language and take some guitar lessons .. so I think that those will become my hobbies."
guest3849 asks "what do you go through in order to get your character to 'come out' of you?"
RonMelendez says "You know, it depends on the circumstances of what you're doing at the time. Different things for different moments. On a normal day, I go home, look at the stuff, and put myself in the situation under the terms of the character and sort of figure out how you would act."
guest3831 asks "Are you a history fan?"
RonMelendez says "I am to some areas of history .. it's never been my huge ... I'm really fascinated by ancient Greece and Rome, but you know, I'm becoming interested in the time we're doing our show in ... 1881 .. the Civil War and American history. So, you know, a minor history fan."
guest3837 asks "What is a typical day like for Ron?"
RonMelendez says "Would be to wake up at 6am, hop in the shower, get dressed, get some Einstein brother's coffee on the way to work, get a breakfast burrito at work which I've become addicted to. I can't function without it. I throw a fit! Lock myself in my trailer !" RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "Then get into hair, makeup, wardrobe and then they drag you to the set and you keep doing it until the day is over. and, then we hang out and bull**** and laugh and have a lot of fun."
guest3847 asks "What is it you enjoy most about acting?"
RonMelendez says "Good question. Besides the breakfast burrito. It's a fun .. really exciting give and take between two people when it's at it's best .. you're playing off of what the other person is doing, getting it back and exploring different character's mindsets .. reacting to things in ways that you normally wouldn't. That's a lot of fun."
guest3849 asks "Do you get to keep the clothes you wear in the show?"
RonMelendez {action} laughs loudly!" RonMelendez says "Yeah, every night we take the wardrobe and go out on the town in Richmond. No, a lot of it is rented, so we can't have it. Some projects you can, but this .. I don't think you'd really want to."
guest3836 asks "do you miss your previous roles on other shows?"
RonMelendez says "No ... I'm having a lot of fun doing this one."
guest3837 asks "What did you do on New Years?"
RonMelendez says "I had a couple of .. I convinced a friend of mine to have a party cause I was sick of having another NY's with nothing to do .. so I got a bunch of my friends, we went over there til midnight, then I went to another party .. it was nice. I spent it with all my friends."
guest3850 asks "What are you going to do for New Year 2000? What did you do this year?"
RonMelendez says "That's a good question. I've always wanted to spend it in Las Vegas. I love Vegas. So, hopefully I will do that .. but I've said that every year! What I'd like to do is rent some place out and get everyone to go there, all my friends, and have everyone having a really good time."
squeekie asks "who is your favorite comedian?"
RonMelendez says "I really like Denis Leary. His one man shows are brilliant .. no cure for cancer was brilliant. He's hilarious."
HSHost says "What do you think Davis Spade?"
RonMelendez says "I think he's hilarious. I love David Spade. I think he's funny."
guest3773 asks "Do you work with any charities?"
RonMelendez says "Not at present ... but I'd like to get involved with some. The show's been working with the YWCA in town, so I'm going to start doing some stuff with them."
squeekie asks "Do you prefer working in TV or Films?"
RonMelendez says "You know, either .. it depends on the project. My goal is to do film, that's what I'd like to do ultimately with my life, but right now I love doing the show and TV gives you the opportunity to reach more people than film. So, it's nice."
guest3837 asks "What was your favorite movie from 1998?"
RonMelendez says "Either "Saving Private Ryan" which I loved. And, then "Shakespeare In Love," that was amazing. Smart, and funny, just a really good movie! And, Gwyneth!" RonMelendez {action} laughs"
Sid asks "what would be your ultimate project?"
RonMelendez says "Would be a movie with Gwyneth." RonMelendez {action} laughs"
HSHost2 says "Where you go home together after the movie."
RonMelendez says "No, no no .. that's trouble. Ben is going to be so mad!" RonMelendez {action} laughs"
RonMelendez says "No, I've always wanted to do a good war film. That'd be really cool to do."
guest3847 asks "Do you think our Government conspires against us as citizens?"
RonMelendez says "I don't think on a broad scale they do." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "I believe there's certain parts of the government that conspire against certain citizens .. so maybe."
squeekie asks "What type of music do you like?"
RonMelendez says "Alternative ... my favorite bands are like Radiohead ... Their new CD is great .. and I like a band called Cracker. They actually live in Richmond so ... Ben Folds Five is great."
HSHost2 says "Those are all good! You and Michelle would get along really well."
RonMelendez says "Alright Michelle!"
guest3835 asks "do you go out to clubs?"
RonMelendez says "I'm more of a pub man than a bar man, but every once in a while clubs are fine."
guest3835 asks "Do you want to have children?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, but someday ...."
guest3837 asks "What is your favorite sport?"
RonMelendez says "Ice Hockey. That's easy. I don't play as much as I usually do cause I'm working, I'm in a league in LA when I'm in town, so whenever I can, I play."
guest3847 asks "Do you believe in UFO's?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah .. absolutely."
HSHost2 says "Cool."
guest3835 asks "What is your favorite episode of the legacy?"
RonMelendez says "My fav so far would ... I feel really close personally to episodes involving my mother on the show. The first one I really liked. There was one in December that aired called "Homecoming" when Ned Logan gets into a coma .. I think that's one of our best."
guest3773 asks "What's been your favorite project so far in your career?"
RonMelendez says "Legacy." RonMelendez {action} chuckles" RonMelendez says "That's simple enough."
squeekie asks "Do you prefer the east coast or the west coast?"
RonMelendez says "I'm definitely a west coast guy, but I'm finding the things that I do like about the east coast. But, I'm an LA guy."
guest3773 asks "Have you played any practical Jokes on your castmates?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, yeah, there've been a few. One that was very funny .. one day at work, we all have our trailers right next to each other and we park in front of our trailers. It was lunchtime and everyone was hanging around and Jeremy Garritt was right in the area .. I saw him go in his trailer and then go to have lunch .. so I snuck into his trailer, got his keys, and moved his car. He walked back and forth the entire day without noticing that his car was gone!"
RonMelendez says "Didn't notice all day. Sarah's mom (Patrice) kept trying to drop hints to get him to notice, but he's in another world. So, finally he's in the last scene and I'm leaving .. and I'm like this is ridiculous. So, I go get his car and put it behind the catering area where we eat lunch .. totally hide it. I go home and give the keys to one of the AD's and say "don't give them to him right away .. let him panic." And, so I go home, am watching TV and he calls me "Ron, did you hide my car?"" RonMelendez says "I'm like "Dude, what are you talking about!" And, he's like "Ron, somebody stole my car!" I'm like "What are you talking about man, look around!" So, he calls back and he's saying, "Somebody stole my car man, I gotta call the cops!"
HSHost says "That is so mean!"
RonMelendez says "He totally freaked out and I finally told him, he was so pissed." RonMelendez {action} laughs"
Sid asks "Have you ever done any theatre? Are we going to see you in anything soon?"
RonMelendez says "Yeah, the last two things I did were at a small theatre in LA, I did "Romeo & Juliet" played Romeo ... and I did "Measure For Measure" by Shakespeare .. so I'd love to. I don't know if it'll be this year, but maybe next year I'd like to do some theater."
Sid asks "what is something you want for your birthday?"
RonMelendez says "Huh .. that's a good question. It was just my birthday ... right before that."
HSHost says "Happy Belated! Happy Birthday!"
RonMelendez says "Thank you! I'd like a horse. Send that to UPN .. Wilshire Blvd.."
guest3838 asks "Do you like to cook?"
RonMelendez says "I do. I do like to cook. I need to broaden my cooking vocabulary, but I enjoy it."
guest3847 asks "what would you put in a time capsule?"
RonMelendez says "Myself." RonMelendez {action} chuckles" RonMelendez says "That'd be it ... send me off to the future. You know, a picture of me, a tape of the show .. that's a good question. I think the people of the future would want to appreciate what I'm all about so ..." RonMelendez {action} laughs"
HSHost2 {action} laughs"
squeekie asks "Have you ever been stalked?"
RonMelendez says "No, but I stalked somebody once." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "I had this crush on this girl in college from the first quarter I was there, I just thought she was really cute. But, I was too insecure to go up and say hi, how're you doing, my name's Ron. So, I'd see her on campus, she used to work in the student union and I'd walk by her 10 times a day .. and finally in my last year, I asked her out .. we went out and had drinks with her friends, but that was it. It was nice. Bring it to fruition."
HSHost2 says "That's good."
guest3848 asks "what is your favorite book and author please?"
RonMelendez says "Please. That's nice. Um ... "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" by Joyce. "Farewell to Arms" by Hemingway. There are others, but those are the two standouts."
guest3850 asks "If you had to choose between food and sex, which would you choose?"
RonMelendez says "If Michelle were in the room, it would definitely be sex." RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "If you could incorporate both into one thing, that's the way to go."
HSHost2 says "She says "whipped cream and me."
RonMelendez {action} laughs" RonMelendez says "Absolutely."
guest3850 asks "Clinton - resign, censure, impeach or nothing at all?"
RonMelendez says "I'm of the opinion that his private life is his private life and it didn't affect the way he ran the government. So, the question he was asked on the stand was one that I don't think any man in America would give a truthful answer to .. it's hard to say yes to "did you cheat on your wife." I don't think anything should be done, and I don't think impeachment is the answer, I don't think he did anything to necessitate that. If something has to be done, then a censure, but we should let him finish his term and run the country ..."
guest3848 asks "What is your all time favorite movie?"
RonMelendez says ""From Here to Eternity" is one of my favorites. Montgomery Clift is my fav actor, so anything he's in I love. Um ... I really liked "Jaws," it was great. I think Spielberg is pretty good." RonMelendez {action} chuckles" RonMelendez says ""Trainspotting" I liked a lot."
squeekie asks "What would you like to accomplish in "
RonMelendez says "That's this year .. that's amazing. I'd like to finish a successful first year on this show, do a couple of movies and start year two of Legacy. That's the plan!"
HSHost2 says "Ron, thank you so much for joining us tonight. It was a pleasure to have you on the show!"
RonMelendez says "Thank you! It was my pleasure!"
